Pumper 196

Western Wake has taken delivery of the replacement for old Pumper/Tanker 196.  It was built by Pierce Manufacturing as part of Wake County's apparatus replacement program.  The truck is a Pierce Contender equipped with a Cummins ISL diesel motor, a Waterous 1250 GPM pump with a Husky Foam System, a 1000 gallon tank, a 30 gallon on-board foam tank and a 2100 gallon drop tank it also has Onspot automatic tire chain system, a first for Western Wake. It serves as Station 2's first out engine and responds to all fire related calls and calls for mutual aid.  Essential structural fire equipment is carried as is a MSA Thermal Imaging Camera.  It seats 6 firefighters in an enclosed raised-roof cab.  Scene lighting is provided by a 1500 watt brow light and (2) 1500 watt scene lights mounted on the side of the truck above the pump panel.

Emergency warning devices include: A LED light bar, rotary lights on the sides of the hose bed, and an all LED perimeter lighting package.  It also has a Code 3 siren and speaker along with air horns along with a Federal Signal "Q".

196 was placed in service on 7 December 2005, and ran its first call that day, a working vehicle fire on Interstate 40.
