"The Beast"

196 was Western Wake Fire Rescue and Wake County's largest tanker. It was sold to a private individual in November 2005 after it was replaced as part of Wake County's vehicle replacement program.  It is a 1985 Grumman Firecat based on a Kenworth tandem axle chassis. 196 ran on all structure fire and mutual aid calls, along with being the first out unit from Station 1 for any RDU Airport incident or mutual aid call on I-440. 196 carried a maximum of 6 people: Driver, Captain and up to 4 firefighters on the back. It has a 2500 gallon tank with a 1250 GPM pump. 196 has a deck gun and an assortment of other size hose, along with all needed nozzles and appliances. A drop tank is also included on 196 along with a large amount of AFFF foam. 196 is equipped to handle minor first responder calls only carrying a jump bag.

Emergency warning devices include: Code 3 light bar and an assortment of strobe and rotary warning lights. It also carries a Code 3 siren and speaker along with air horns.
