Tanker 198

Western Wake Fire Rescue took delivery of the replacement for the old Tanker 198 in late October 2005 and was placed in service on 3 November 2005.  This truck replaces previous Tanker 198, which is part of Wake County's apparatus replacement program.  198 is an International 4400 powered by an International 330 HP Diesel engine.  The body is manufactured by KME Fire Apparatus.  It has a Hale 500 GPM pump and has a 2000 gallon tank.  A 2100 gallon drop tank is stored on the passenger side of the apparatus.  There is a 10 inch gravity dump valve on the rear and an 8 inch valve on either side of the truck.  All valves can be controlled in the cab or at the tailboard.  A rear-view camera with microphone is mounted on the top of the tank to assist the driver with placement at drop tank operations.  The truck will run first out at Station 1 on requested tanker calls and as a tender for brush trucks on woods and grass fires.  Warning devices consist of a LED light bar and LED perimeter lights with rotators on the rear.  Days after being placed in service 198 took place in one of the largest tanker shuttles in Wake County history making multiple runs during a large barn fire in Fuquay-Varina.
