299 is Western Wake's brush truck. It is a 2005 Ford F-550 4x4 powered by a Power Stroke Diesel. It has a Knapheide utility body that was installed by Rocky Mount Parts & Service. The skid unit was installed by Emergency Apparatus, Inc. 299 is our primary EMS response vehicle and runs on all brush or grass fires. 299 carries a maximum of 2 firefighters. It has a 300 gallon tank with a 250 GPM pump. 299 has a booster reel, a 200' 1 3/4" dead lay and 200' of forestry hose. It also has an assortment of brush tools, along with Indian tanks, a chain-saw and other equipment. Mounted to the front push bar is a Warn winch. 299 is used during NC State football games and during the NC State Fair. It also tows our trailer with Car 19 (Kawasaki Mule) on calls where it was requested. It was purchased by Wake County as part of their apparatus replacement program.
Emergency warning devices include a Whelen LED light bar, hide-a-way strobes and a mixture of LED and strobe perimeter lighting. 299 has a 12volt HID scene light mounted to the passenger side, it also has LED scene lighting installed around the body. The installation of all emergency warning equipment and the custom center console was completed by Western Wake volunteers.
