Station 1
Western Wake Station 1 is Wake County Station 19 and is located at 4021 District Drive in Raleigh, North Carolina. Station 1 has duty crews in place Monday thru Friday 0700-1700 and Saturday and Sundays from 0800-1700. Volunteer Duty Crews also cover Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights from 1800-0600. The remainder of the time it relies on volunteers to man the equipment. Station 1 is home to: Engine/Tanker 196, Engine 191 and Tanker 198. Truck 1 is also assigned to Station as a utility and First Responder Vehicle.
Station 1 is also home to WC-7, Wake County Public Safety's Body Recovery Team. This team consists of public safety professionals from throughout Wake County. The team is dispatched to calls in which special care and attention to detail is needed in the removal of bodies from crime scenes, accidents and other incidents of that nature.
Station 1 is comprised of a large 6 door bay (3 on each side), a day/living room, a training/sleeping room, a chief/captain's office, a kitchen, storage areas and a radio room. Station 1's power is backed up fully by a Caterpillar generator. Members enjoy the comforts of home with sofas, a big screen HDTV with a home theater DVD system and VCR, a TV and VCR in the bedroom/training room , 2 computers with wireless internet access, fax machine, beds and showers. During possible natural disasters, (hurricanes or floods) members staff the station fully and provide for full response. This paid off during the Ice Storm of 1998 and after Hurricane Floyd when we were dispatched to a house fire and were able to have a quick response and save the house.
Station 1's district includes the North Carolina State Fairgrounds, North Carolina State University's Carter-Finely Stadium and other suburban Raleigh areas. It also includes a large residential area off of Ebenezer Church Road. Station 1 runs auto-aid calls with the Raleigh Fire Department and relies on Wake County EMS for ambulance service.
Station 1 is also the host for many of the county's past Hazardous Material and Incident Command classes as well as fire inspector classes.
