Former Station 2
Western Wake Station 2 was Wake County Station 29 and was located at 325 East Durham Road in Cary, North Carolina. Station 2's funding was cut by Wake County in 2008 and was taken out of service during a ceremony on June 30th, 2008. This marked the end of responses from the building which had housed the Cary Rural Fire Department and YRAC Fire Department in the 45 years prior to the closing. Station 2 now serves as a storage facility for Western Wake Fire Rescue and currently houses the two trucks that were taken out of service at the closure, Pumper 297 and Pumper 293. Utility Truck 1 is currently housed at the station as well in order to give volunteers a means to respond to calls as manpower.
The district served by Station 2 was recreated and renamed as the Cary Suburban Fire District and the response was taken over by the Cary Fire Department.
